Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and Dyrhólaey Cape
Distance from Hrifunes Guesthouse by car: 50 minutes
Close to Iceland's southernmost point, the black sand beach at Reynisfjara is one of the most beautiful beaches in Iceland. Its spectacular columnar basalt cliff formations make this a dramatic site. Nearby is Dyrholaey (Cape of the Doors), a natural rock bridge formation that is perhaps the most recognizable landmark in South Iceland. In the summer you can drive above it and walk to the old lighthouse for fantastic views of the areas rich birdlife, including puffins.
