Skaftefell in Vatnajökull National Park
Distance from Hrifunes Guesthouse by car: 1 hour
Skaftafell has been a national park since 1967 and it is home to some of Iceland's most beautiful landscapes and hiking routes. It lies at the foot of Hvannadalshnukur, a 2110 meter-high glacier and the highest mountain in Iceland. One of the most famous hiking routes in the area takes you to Svartifoss Waterfall, known for its columnar basalt surroundings. Skaftafell also has an information center and a number of glacier tour operators who can arrange a glacier adventure for you.
